Caixa's revenue from lotteries totaled US$980m and fell 29% in Q1 1iw6t

Caixa's revenue from lotteries totaled R$5.5 billion (US$980m) in the first quarter, a 29% drop compared to the fourth quarter of 2024 and 10% in 12 months. The Brazilian public bank rules out that this drop is a reflection of the proliferation of wagers on the so-called ‘Bets’ and games such as ‘Tigrinho’ (Fortune Tiger) and continues with plans to create its own betting company. 2u2c6x

The total net prizes delivered to bettors in the period was R$2.1 billion (US$375m), an 8.2% increase compared to 1Q24.

In 1Q25, R$2.1 billion (US$375m) , equivalent to 38.6% of the total collected, were allocated to the Federal Government's social programs in the areas of social security, sports, culture, public safety, education and health.

One explanation for the decline is that in early 2024 there were more accumulated prizes above R$100 million (US$18m) from Mega-Sena, Caixa's flagship lottery. In early 2025, there was only one accumulated prize above this amount.

The president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Carlos Vieira, told reporters that the bank is still planning to create its own betting company. But he stressed that there will be a concern when entering this segment.

"Caixa is concerned with encouraging conscious gambling and by entering these games it will prioritize conscious gambling," he said.
