The Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (I) of ‘Bets’ rejected this Thursday (12) the final report by Senator Soraya Thronicke, which proposed the indictment of influencers and companies, as well as the end of online casinos and imposed measures to contain the growth of the regulated sports betting and online gaming sector.
There were 4 votes against and 3 in favor of the rapporteur's text. Senators Ângelo Coronel (PSD-BA), Eduardo Gomes (PL-TO), Efraim Filho (União-PB) and Professor Dorinha Seabra (União-TO) voted against the report. Those in favor were Soraya, Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) and Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE).
The report called for the indictment of 16 people, including digital influencers such as Virgínia Fonseca and Deolane Bezerra. The text also proposed 20 measures to contain the “harm” caused by online betting.
Among them, the prohibition of online casino games, which would not affect sports betting, and the prohibition of people ed with CadÚnico (an instrument that identifies low-income families) from betting online.
At the end of the demonstrations, the chairman of the I, Dr. Hiran, had to wait for a quorum to put the report to a vote. The concern was the lack of enough to open the so that the senators could vote. After about 15 minutes, the legal number (eight senators) was reached for the final decision.
In the end, the senators decided to reject it, burying Soraya Thronicke's 541-page report.
With this result, the I ends without a final report and without sending the indictment proposals to official bodies. The rapporteur stated, however, that she will forward the conclusions to the competent authorities, such as the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Federal Police and the Ministry of Finance.
